Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup whole milk

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray or butter.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened (do not overmix). Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts if using.

Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.

Layer the Batter: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top. Pour the remaining batter over this layer, and then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.

Create Swirls: Using a knife, gently swirl the batter and cinnamon sugar together to create a marbled effect, being careful not to overmix.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
