Ingredients

1 sleeve of saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

1 cup packed light brown sugar

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.

Make the Toffee Mixture: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the brown sugar, stirring continually until it comes to a gentle boil. Let it boil for 3 minutes, continuing to stir constantly.

Pour the Toffee: Remove the toffee mixture from the heat and pour it evenly over the saltine crackers. Use a spatula to spread it if necessary, ensuring all crackers are covered.

Bake it Up: Bake the toffee-covered crackers in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbly and caramelized.

Add the Chocolate: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for 5 minutes to soften, then gently spread the melted chocolate into an even layer using a spatula.

Top it Off: If desired, sprinkle the chopped nuts over the chocolate layer and lightly press them in. For an extra touch, sprinkle sea salt over the top.

Cool and Set: Allow the candy to cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Then, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to allow the chocolate to harden fully.

Break and Serve: Once set, break the candy into pieces and enjoy! It can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.
