Ingredients

12 lasagna noodles

1 pound ground beef

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 egg

4 cups marinara sauce

3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the noodles: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

      Prepare the meat sauce:

        - In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

          - Add chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

            - Stir in 2 cups of marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.

Mix the ricotta filling: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

                Assemble the lasagna:

                  - Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

                    - Place 3 noodles on top of the sauce.

                      - Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.

                        - Add half of the meat sauce on top of the ricotta.

                          - Repeat the layers (3 noodles, remaining ricotta, remaining meat sauce).

                            - Finish with 3 more noodles, the remaining marinara sauce, and top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish: Remove from oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
