Ingredients

1 cup canned pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/4 cup milk (or plant-based milk)

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional, for a marble effect)

Pumpkin seeds (for topping, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the pumpkin, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

Sift Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt. This ensures there are no lumps and helps to aerate the flour.

Mix Together: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips gently with a spatula. If you want a marble effect, reserve some batter and mix it with the white chocolate chips before layering.

Pour into the Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. If desired, sprinkle pumpkin seeds or a few extra chocolate chips on top for a decorative touch.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (a few gooey chocolate bits are fine, just make sure it’s not wet batter).

Cool: Once done, allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Slice the bread once fully cooled. Enjoy it as is, or for an extra indulgent treat, toast slices and spread with butter or cream cheese.
