Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup water (or milk for a richer flavor)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Gradually add the water (or milk) to the dry mixture, stirring until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Flatten each ball into a disc, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add enough oil for shallow frying.

Once the oil is hot, carefully place the flattened discs in the skillet, frying them until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.

Remove the buñuelos and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Optionally, dust the warm buñuelos with powdered sugar or sprinkle with cinnamon for added sweetness.

Serve warm, either plain or with a drizzle of honey or syrup.
