Ingredients

1 lb flank steak or skirt steak

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

8 corn tostada shells

1 cup refried beans (canned or homemade)

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 cup diced tomatoes

1 avocado, sliced

1 cup crumbled queso fresco

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the flank steak, turning to coat evenly. Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours in the fridge).

Cook the Steak: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and cook for 4-6 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let the steak rest for about 5 minutes.

Slice the Steak: After resting, slice the steak thinly against the grain.

Prepare the Tostadas: While the steak rests, warm the tostada shells in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes until crisp.

Assemble the Tostadas: Spread a layer of refried beans on each tostada shell. Top with a generous portion of sliced carne asada, then add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, avocado slices, and crumbled queso fresco.

Garnish: Sprinkle fresh cilantro over the top and serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tostadas.

Enjoy: Dig in and enjoy the layered flavors and textures of your homemade Tostadas de Carne Asada!
