Go Back
The origins of pecan pie can be traced back to the Southern United States, where it has become an iconic dessert. The use of pecans dates back to Native American tribes, who utilized the nut in various dishes long before European settlers arrived. The pie itself is believed to have gained popularity in the early 19th century, with the first published recipe appearing in a cookbook in 1886. Over the years, pecan pie has evolved, with various adaptations emerging, including the addition of chocolate, bourbon, and even coconut.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

2 large eggs

1 cup light corn syrup

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 cup chopped pecans

1/4 cup milk chocolate chips (optional, for a twist)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang to easily lift the bars out later.

Make the Crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, cubed butter, salt, and baking powder. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form an even layer.

Bake the Crust: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly while preparing the filling.

Prepare the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, corn syrup, vanilla extract, and brown sugar until well combined and smooth.

Add Pecans and Chocolate: Fold in the chopped pecans and milk chocolate chips (if using) until evenly distributed in the filling mixture.

Combine and Bake: Pour the pecan filling over the cooled crust, carefully spreading it into an even layer. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.

Cool and Cut: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment overhang and cut into squares or bars.

Serve: Enjoy these delicious pecan pie bars fresh or stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They make an excellent treat for gatherings, parties, or whenever you crave a sweet bite!
