Ingredients

1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups beef broth

1 cup water

1 cup long-grain white rice

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese (or gruyère)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Sauté the Onions: In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, until they are caramelized (about 15-20 minutes). Add the minced garlic in the last 2 minutes of cooking.

Cook the Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high, push the onions to the side, and add the sliced beef sirloin. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes until browned.

Add Broth and Worcestershire Sauce: Pour in the beef broth and water, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for about 15 minutes.

Prepare the Rice: While the beef is simmering, cook the rice according to package instructions. Usually, it involves rinsing the rice, bringing water to a boil, adding rice, and covering until the water is absorbed (about 15-18 minutes).

Assemble the Dish: Once the beef mixture is ready, serve it over a bed of rice in bowls. Top each serving with a generous portion of shredded Swiss cheese.

Melt the Cheese: Place the bowls under the broiler (if oven-safe) for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish: Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
