Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons milk (as needed)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing until well incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon until evenly combined.

Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. If the dough is too stiff, add a tablespoon of milk at a time until it reaches a soft, workable consistency.

Shape the Cookies: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. You can flatten them slightly for a more traditional look.

Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked, but they will firm up as they cool.

Cool the Cookies: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: About 24 cookies
