Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup coarsely chopped pecans

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

3 large eggs

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup buttermilk

Zest of 1 lemon

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, chopped pecans, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk until evenly mixed.

Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add the melted butter, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and lemon zest; mix until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently stir until just combined, being careful not to over mix.

Transfer to Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.

Bake the Bread: Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Start checking at 50 minutes to avoid overcooking.

Cool: Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Slice and enjoy your Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread warm or at room temperature. It pairs wonderfully with butter or cream cheese.
